Sonore

Van Nov 2011 t/m Nov 2011
Duur minuten
with Quator Bozzini

In the programme Sonore, Slagwerk Den Haag forms a unique combination with the renowned Canadian string quartet Quatuor Bozzini.

Both are masters of sound; one a master of harmony, the other master of the beat. Quatuor Bozzini enjoy global fame for their interplay and unparalleled expertise in the area of micro-intervals, as well as their daring choice of repertoire. The fame, artistic profile and incomparable teamwork of Slagwerk Den Haag is of the same calibre. Together, these two ensembles commit themselves to composers who are willing to join them in exploring the essence of sound.

The six pieces in Sonore revolve around sound - remarkable combinations, subtle combinations, heterogeneous instruments, deviating moods. Three new commissioned works will be performed, Jo Kondo (Japan) and Stefan Van Eycken (Belgium) writing for the ensemble combination and Peter Adriaansz composing a string quartet. Both ensembles will also play three pieces that could not possibly be left ouf of the repertoire: to mark the anniversary year of Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001), Slagwerk Den Haag will play his classic piece Métaux and Peter Garlands The Three Strange Angels. Finally, Bozzini will perform the long-awaited Dutch première of Arbor Vitae, the last piece ever composed by the Canadian/American pioneer James Tenney.

Thes, together with new work by Jo Kondo, Stefan Van Eycken and Peter Adriaansz, will serve as an ode to everything these companies stand for: a focus on detail, refined interplay, a meticulous ear and a constant yearning for adventure.
